Your Character’s Career

Unless they plan to write about a very limited spectrum of ideas and experiences, one thing every writer needs to be able to do is write outside her own experience. Whether she’s writing a character who needs to pilot a space ship to dock with a space station, or something more down-to-earth like being a small business owner, a writer will need to be able to writing convincingly about a topic or profession about which she has no first-hand knowledge.
